I found myself shedding several tears for him at work today...
More details are gradually coming in as I speak to his various friends etc... apparently he died of a Heart Attack as a result of Kidney Failure. His funeral was well attended by 40-50 of his friends, family and former work colleagues. The Rabbi's speech was Hantai to a T... -------------------- I'm just a forum admin... I don't work here...

Dear Hantai
What do you say about someone you knew, but so little about? How can you write and expect to be able to capture his moments without any doubt? I don't. I just know that without him I wouldn't be here and not know everyone in this place All that exists here and all that is written just wouldn't have happened and couldn't replace. I know that he's gone but I cannot imagine it's true I just didn't think that it could be. We'll never again see 'the wielder of many sharp objects' around here, ever to see. I don't think there's anyone here that could say that you weren't an influence upon us though. The way that you travel now leaves us all saddened but to better places we know that you go. I'm sure that the lives that you've touched and the people you brought all together will ever be known. The ripples your work has created will always be emanating, proven and shown. Many among us have tasted your wit, as sharp as a razor and always at hand, Shivers would run down the spine of the poor person under your wrath, where you chose it to land. We’ll all miss you here, but you’ll never be gone as the memory lives on in so many of us, A blessing upon you, and grateful we are, to have known you, Dear Hantai, your memory in trust. Hantai was one of mydearest friends, and i know I'll never forget him. He gave me a book to read, and i am reading it now, whilst thinking of his great personality with each page i turn. I have cried many many times, and i'm sorry that i couldn't be on his funeral.
Guy, I hope you have a better life up there, one you deserve, one for the kind person you were. -------------------- |

I'm sorry to hear the bad news. I've never spoken to Guy but have heard of stories about him. It's a shame to loose anyone good in this world. R.I.P. Guy. May all our thoughts be cherished in your spirit forever.

I didn't know him well, he was the kind of guy I saw around more than anything. Any conversation tended to be him schooling me on something I could've sworn I knew. It's something to be appreciated, one of those people who knows so much more and is willing to help the little guys.
I've seen the death of people that I knew online before but I think this was the first where I felt that there was a real personality behind the handle. RIP -------------------- ![]() |

Oh, my Lord. I didn't know...I never knew what he'd been going through. All I knew is that he loved my strip, loved to talk about it, and there's definitely going to be a hole in my e-mail folder now that we won't be chatting anymore.
You'd think that as often as death is a recurrent theme in my own work that I'd be better prepared for something like this, but it doesn't help. It never does. I'll miss him. CMorrison www.polymercitychronicles.com |

This forum and close community that we have here is real tribute to Hantai and all the work he put into it with the others he helped along the way. The technical help, the financial aspect of hosting a server with the amount of band width we needed, the wit, the help keeping the forums on the straight and narrow, the hours of work put in, plus someone that was always there whenever you needed him.
What a great loss to everyone that knew him. Life after death....if there is, then i want to make him the first person i sit down and chat with. R.I.P. Hantai, your presence will always be with us and your spirit will carry on. -------------------- |

Life After Death... i hope he recieves the same warm kindness that he showed us all and i hope that when he looks down upon us he will smile knowing that we are all thinking about him. Rest in peace Hantai [O-CuK]Sally -------------------- |

I met him a bit over a month ago, we had a wander around London, then a great meal in a chinese restaurant.
I don't think I've met many people in my life I can say are as polite, considerate and as patient as Hantai. I wish now I could get hold of the photo from the london dungeons, or that I'd taken my camera to london that day. R.I.P. Hantai, for the gaming, the wandering, and the best chinese meal of my life. EDIT: Ok I've had a little more time to think about this, and I just think there are some things I need to say about Hantai. In the short time I knew him, I gained so much from a man I quickly came to respect and admire. His attitude towards moderation and forum politics was certainly interesting, as was his policy on IRC troublemakers. But really it wasn't the way he moderated the boards, or how he banned Brazil from IRC that made me think so highly of him... it was who he was, and what he made me realise. Before I came to know Hantai I wasn't really in the best state of mind, I was constantly messing up things with my girlfriend and generally cacking up life. I also hadn't got any decent people on my MSN list to discuss Morrowind with. It was the things he'd say, basically telling me to stop being a tit. And when I was having a pretty crap time, he'd actually listen and come out with decent responses. For this I am eternally grateful for having known him. I envy those who knew him better, I really do, I was only just getting to see what a great guy he was. We had planned to get together for a barbeque this summer, I was planning on e-mailing him only this afternoon until I read the last week's posts. There was that day in London though and I'll never forget it, I'd never been for a proper wander around London before so it was a great experience. Dungeons, boats on the Thames, random snacks from roadside vendors... that bl**dy road with NO bins for like half a mile... and not to mention a brilliant Chinese meal. At the end of the meal he showed me where the underground station was, and how to get back to London Bridge station... he even gave me his underground day pass, as he was getting a minicab back. To the man who gave me that appreciation for life... thank you. So much. My thoughts are with those who knew you better, and I hope they can overcome their deep sense of loss, with a deeper sense of gratitude for having known a man like you. -------------------- .: Intel E2180 @ 3.0GHz :: Asus P5K :: 4x1024MB Geil PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 :: ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4 :. |
