so if i take of the heatsink and if the paste is making little contact in the middle if its convexed, am i better to put more on than normal or not? http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruc...l_quad_wcap.pdf Follow those guidelines Cheers, Stephen -------------------- Abit AT8-32X, Athlon 64 4400+ Toledo @2.6GHz, 4x512MB Crucial Ballistix PC4000 RAM, Sapphire Radeon X1900XT, 2x 150GB Western Digital Raptor drives in RAID-0, 250 Gb Western Digital WD2500KS Caviar SE16, Pioneer DVR-A07XLB DVD-RW, NEC ND-4571a DVD-RW/RAM, Belinea 10 20 35 W 20" Widescreen TFT, Antec Sonata II case

cheers for that, im assuming if i make a line across the cores, its gonna make contact as the cpu cant possibly be that convexed in the middle that my heatsink aint gonna touch it? but what bothers me is the first time i took it off there was no TIM on the heatsink in the middle, could be down to me having a really thin layer on it and not doing it the way that guide suggests.

I have a very early stepping and it runs hot as well. 10 months later still no issues and it is folding all day long. I'm running at 1.36 volts @ 2.6Ghz
Mine was very concave. I started to lap it in the lab at work and the edges were actually starting to polish through and show the copper without being level with the center. I decided to stop at that point and that is how it sits today. I seem to remember it being in the high 30's or low 40's idle, but can't be sure. CKJ -------------------- ![]() |

just resat my heatsink and i was right, there was no contact in the middle.
whacked on some artic silver 5 and checked for contact, there was loads! temps now 56-55-47-48 under load using Prime95! thats not far off what my stock temps were, am i right in saying i can expect another 2-5c drop once AS5 has been ran in? also how good are these temps for a room temp of 19C and for a q6600 b3? Pretty good, what you using to measure them? If it's speedfan, add 15°C to those temps.
*edit* Never mind, I saw you are using coretemp in your first post. Those are good temps and you can probably expect them to drop another degree or so when the Arctic Silver beds in.
