Call me late to the scene, but I've JUST discovered Google's Sketchup. For those not aware, Sketchup is a FREE 3D Design package, implemented within Google Earth to render 3D Buildings.

It's damn handy for planning out casemods and water installs in advance of purchasing, checking how (and if) components will fit in your case etc. I've spent the last week doing the ThermoChill radiator models for folks to download and use, and have started doing a few of the other popular watercooling components... and if anyone wants a custom watercooling build from O-CuK, this is how it'll get planned out prior to lifting a tool to the case from here on in...

Get Sketchup Here and see below for Sketchup Components that I've knocked up for y'all...
If you want realistic renders of your Sketchup drawings, check out Kerkythea 2007 - a free raytracing software package that bolts on to Sketchup perfectly.

The ThermoChill PA160 - possibly my most accurate SU yet... (even the tubes are proper 3d surfaces to the correct thickness and if you drop a sectionplane on the endtank, you can look down them)

Sketchup has been out a while. But i think O-CuK/Thermochill are the first to supply templates to the program, all other templates i have seen have been self published affairs that you couldnt garantee were 100% accurate.

Holy level of detail, Batman! You actually modeled the fins!

I'm impressed. Those PA models beat the crap out of the ones I made.

The PA120.3 and pump w/ alpha top are going straight into my latest case sketch. Great work, and congratulations on picking up the ideal solution for mocking up case mods.

Ahhh my Sketchup Saviour... folks - this be Scooby, whom I consider to be a Sketchup Master in comparison to meself, who has assisted me at various points with the above models - he's from Bit-tech, has numerous pieces up on The SCC... and can do things like this in Sketchup:

Thank you for the intro Marci but you didn't need to do that...and I'm not a SketchUp Master far from it. I just help when I can.

In comparison to me you are d00d... that Gundam is just awe inspiring... anyhoo - after our emails etc yesterday, PA160 is now finished and added to the OP...! EK NF4 Rev1.1 also added.

So Scooby - you gonna post some of your Clay renders, or shall I??

And here's my first render in Kerkythea of the PA160... with Chrome plated fittings, with hi-gloss 2pak car paint.

Soon as you start working in Kerkythea, having the faces the correct way round in Sketchup becomes a MAJOR necessity... 1 out of every 5 fins had it's face inverted so rendered wrong - took me ages to work out why biggrin.gif

A few more renders as I play with materials in Kerky...

Something on my PC bombed out partway thru the AA stage of rendering on the above render...

That looks great Marci, looks like your really having fun with this program. I have a question bro...when in SU I either Group or make Components for seperate parts in the piece I'm working on then export to K. When in K and I select a cetain part of the drawing to paint it selects the whole drawing and not the piece I want to paint...this making any sence? Am I doing something wrong?

TY, Scooby

Kerkythea uses SU Material Choice to determine common components. Basically, if you select one component in Kerky, it selects all others colored with same material. You need to work out what items you want to be different textures in Kerky and ensure that you set them all to different colors in SU.

If you're modelling in sketchup and you know that you have a pile of components or groups that all need to use the same material in Kerky, ensure these are all the same (unique) color in SU. When you pick a single item in kerky it selects every item that uses the same material (if that makes sense!)
