does anyone know how to permanently remove the recycle bin from an external HDD.
i'd like this to be drive-side, rather than OS side so i can plug it into an pc and update the playlists. i use the ext. hdd as mp3 storage for car, and the head unit picks up the recycle-bin as a valid folder to play things from. it is more of an annoyance than anything else and just wondering if what i want is possible. so, the aim is to complete and permanently remove the recyclebin from this hard drive, and stop it from being created on every connection to a windows PC... i am on the belief that flash drives dont have a recycle bin configured on them - im guessing this is the 'easier' way. alternatively, is there something on the drive that can tell windows not to create a recycle bin? -------------------- Gaming PC: Asus P5E x38 | Q6600@ 3.5ghz, 1.375v | Gigabyte 9800gx2 | 4gb OCZ PC6400&PC8500 | raid0 320gb | FuZion & PA120.2 | w7 x64

Think its to do with the filesystem, have you tried formatting it as fat32 ?

Try "rd /s x:\recycler"
Seems to work, but that is with a fixed drive (tested on a vmware machine) ![]() And you can re-add it if needed by selecting "configure drives independantly" and setting a different size for the drive. Doubt you could do it on autorun, as different PCs may give it a different drive letter, but you could always -------------------- ~ Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 ~ Shuttle SP35P2 ~ 8Gb Kingston Ultra Low Profile ~ ATI HD5770 ~ |

already fat32.
just ran your second sugestion - so far so good (tested on laptop only). remove & re-attach drive shows no recycle bin re-appearing. mot sure what the difference is between pressing 'delete' on the recycle bin folder via explorer, and doing it via the cmdline, but seems to be some difference! autorun might be an option - use the "%~dp0" variable, which i believes detects the drive letter aswell as the folder location your running it from. To get the folder to show in explorer, you have to have it show hidden/important system files, which is an additional pain of you using someone elses computer (they might object with you messing about with that)
