I wonder if that red snow you mention is due to a lack of grounding. Are you running the VGA port just "sitting" in free air, or did you find a way to ground it to the case ? I had a short backplate, which it's firmly (and metalically -------------------- Ądɐɹɔ ɥo

Sounds like interference to me. Tried shielding the cables?

Sounds like interference to me. Tried shielding the cables? If it's interference, and it stays with the port, regardless of which cable/monitor is connected, then the interference originates either on the card itself or on the 3" ribbon cable... ewww. -------------------- Ądɐɹɔ ɥo

Hmm, maybe a subtle difference in the pinouts then as soon as I can afford some more down-time, I'll buzz the cable against VeeHexx's data and verify. Not likely to be before next weekend now. In the meantime I've stopped using dark backgrounds You've been a very helpful community, I may just have to hang out here -------------------- Ądɐɹɔ ɥo

I don't have any over-clocking advice to offer, I'm afraid. Just make it up, most do -------------------- Just remember case modding is like sex, 'it will always fit no matter what they say, it just takes a little work sometimes'

Just a quick follow-up for the sake of completion...
While fiddling around with cables etc. I managed to dislodge and re-connect the VGA cable while everything was still powered up. **PAF!!** one dead G210. Luckily I had GF-8400 on hand thanks to a fellow forum-er, and after a little work with miniature power tools to modify brackets, I was up and running again in no time. And this time, with no red snow! We certainly took the long way round, but in the end a good result. Thanks again, everyone, for your help. -------------------- Ądɐɹɔ ɥo

Haha, told you it wasnt worth messing about with just the cable
Atleast with alittle 3d power from that 8400, you can stop working so hard, and enjoy some light gaming -------------------- ~ Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 ~ Shuttle SP35P2 ~ 8Gb Kingston Ultra Low Profile ~ ATI HD5770 ~ |
